Ultrasonic Pulse Echo is a technique based on detection and analysis of reflected ultrasonic pulse through dry contact transducers. Shear waves of 54kHz are employed for their easier spread and deeper penetration into the material. With the use of several bundled transducers, the multiple reflections are coherently accumulated and analysed by the internal software to build a 2D cross sectional model of the internal of the scanned surface.

Further processing of the scans can be studied to determine the quality assessment and uniformity of material, location of delaminations, voids, honeycoming and reinforcements within the structure.

Advantages of using this technique includes position and depth of defect determinable, large depth of penetration and size of defects can be ascertained.
