Working together with Studio Lapis, MAEK Consulting was responsible in conducting dilapidation survey to conserved Black & White houses around Singapore. These houses were constructed from 1020s-1970s to house government officers and many of the Black & White houses plays a significant role durng World War II. Apart from having such historical value, the architectural features and designs found within the houses are also rarely practiced in modern buildings. Though the internal of the house has been modified, the façade has not been modified and exudes a classic vibe with the surrounding greenery.
Apart from conducting visual inspection, non-dectructive testings such as Infra-red Thermography and Ground Penetrating Radar was conducted to determine the condition of the house. Geographic Information System (GIS) was used during the inspection, allowing data to be compiled and analyzed for future actions.
